Just got this today and I am amazed (and a little disgusted) at how much dirt came out of my carpet. I had to empty it numerous times as the canister was full after cleaning only about 8 square feet. I have one dog and two cats and a teenager and I guess my old vacuum wasn't doing a very good job. I did get quite a good deal on it. I had a 20% off coupon for Bed, Bath & Beyond and I got $110.00 off my purchase. The final price was $439.00 (brand new). I noticed it also has a 5-year warranty. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Just bought at sears a dyson 25 amimal with Five Year warrenty. This is the new ball model and it will suck a golf ball through a garden hose. Seriously great suction. Sears had three of them - now two. They discounted it 10% so I paid sligly under $500.

Lot of Animal 25 out there but this is the new model with roller ball. Very quick assembly and off you go. Although pricy still it appears to be worth the money. This model has a special attachments so you can do your car with the brush running. Size and quality sold me on the unit. Seached the web and of course there were no refurbised units - even if there was the I would pass and buy a new one - most internet sales give 6 month warrenty and sears is 10 minutes away and stand behind their products.

Oreck cheates customers. I was told to get a "bag wash" for the outer bag ($9.50)when I brought the Oreck in for its first annual checkup. The bag was clean but the manager insisted I get it washed with "special cleanser" to remove dirt that escapes the inner bag.
What a ripoff!! I am dissatisfied with the cleaner(it has gone through 3 belts in less than six months and clogs very easily.

We had one Hoover and one Eureka...both top of the line. Our cleaning people use the top of the line Oreck. Once we got our third dog, both our vacuum cleaners smelled horrible. One day the cleaning folks were vacuuming and their Oreck smelled worse than our two vacuums. So, we bit the bullet and bought the Dyson DC17. I vacuumed the house immediately after the cleaning people left, and was AMAZED. The canister had to be emptied several times. Yesterday, I spent an entire hour vacuuming two area rugs and two runners...the cleaning people had been using their own vacuum to clean these as they didn't want to carry the Dyson down the stairs. Just on the two rugs and two runners, I emptied the cannister three times. It wasn't full of carpet fibers, but of dog hair and DIRT. Very fine particles of dirt and dust. It is amazing what comes out of your carpts...this vacuum will definitely tell you.

I hate to vacuum, a task the wife leaves to me because she finds the three machines we have too heavy haul around. After much procrastination a 20% off coupon from Bed Bath and Beyond and a growing army of dust bunnies compelled me to finally pull out the plastic for a Dyson. We don't have pets (besides the dust bunnies) but I opted for the DC17 Animal because it had the attachments, a bigger canister than the DC14 and with the coupon was only $40 more expensive than the DC14 kit at Costco.

A veteran of many IKEA furniture assemblies I had no problems with the instructions as I had seen many people mention in reviews. The overall construction seems a bit flimsy compared to the Hoover and Eureka I have been using and time will tell how well it holds up. My first impression when turning it on was that it really sucks, which in this case was a good thing.

The more I used it, switching from the carpet to wanding the webs in the corners of the 10ft ceilings I couldn't reach before, the more impressed I was with the ergonomics of how the tilting of the unit engaged and disengaged the beater brush, how the attachment wand stored and deployed and the storage location of the attachments. I'd normally lay attachments down then need to search for them, but now I found it more convenient to snap them back into their niches after use.

After years of using bags the dumping canister was welcome and again the design was impressive and very simple: which is a good thing since I was doing it frequently. The carpet is older cut-pile and didn't shed as much as newer carpet would but those darn dust bunnies reproduce so quickly...

I tried the Zorb power on the stairs and it seemed to get out a bit more dirt and leave them smelling lemon fresh. I found it easiest to just work in by hand.

Besides the ability to clean and suck in anything in its path (or the same zipcode) the most impressive thing about it was the lack of residual dusty vacuum odor which is the norm with bag machines.

On the negative side it took a few tries to figure out it was necessary to use a bit of force to get the attachments to stay on: snap locks would be better. The mini-turbine head has a snap lock, but it appears to have been designed for a different larger hose because I can't seem to get in on far enough for the snap lock to engage. Dusting with the little round brush is really tedious of I've ordered the dusting brush.

The unit doesn't fit under furniture, requiring use of the floor attachment, but that's the norm on any upright. it would be nice if the mini-turbine attachment hinged down flat for use under dressers and beds but it doesn't.

When using the attachments on the hose without the handle wand putting the handle back on the machine causes the tube to slip down and hit the hose. Not wanting to puncture the hose I left it off, which is a bit of a PITA. I may just attach a plastic shield over the base of the hose of the tube will not damage it.

Rosanne Barr once quipped that her dream appliance was a riding vacuum cleaner with a built-in wet bar. The mini-turbine, floor tool and the other squarish attachment I have quite figured out the use of yet leave me wishing the DC17 came with an optional trailer to haul them around.

My wife said best way to gauge the value of the machine is:

Dyson Animal: $530 ($420 with discount)

Getting husband to vacuum without complaining: priceless :)

This is my second Dyson. The first went to my husband's business to replace his old Kenmore vac. I got the Animal as an upgrade and I couldn't believe how powerful it is! I have 3 dogs (Golden, Sheltie and Corgi) all of which shed at least a full dog's worth of fur a day! This one rakes through the carpet better than the other and my carpets look like new. It's worth every penny!!!

He doesn't need to show how much the Kirby picked up...the point was that it didn't pick up all of the dog hair. In other words, there shouldn't be that much dirt left behind from the Kirby.

My parents just bought the Dyson Animal Sweeper. It is amazing just after 1 cleaning how good it picked up the dirt in the carpet. We have a dog & the carpets are 100% cleaner. Way to go Dyson!! Glad we bought it.

Just so you're aware, of course the bag is pourous (it has to be) and will fill slowly, but the entire bag is the filter, which is ten times the surface area of the filters inside the Dyson machines. Since the bag is the filter, you get filteration through the majoirty of the bag, most bags have a fill line about 2/3 to 4/3 the way up so you never fill the bag entirely, that will damage the machine. Also its easy to see when the bag is filled to capacity, unlike filters which most people can't tell when their saturated, unless they check them all the time. So by that respect the 'Cleaning Ability' portion of the review is wrong.
