Why a refurbished Dyson might be better than new.

So… you’ve decided that a Dyson vacuum cleaner is in your future?  Congratulations! I personally think you’ve made a wise investment in your home-cleaning arsenal.  Arsenal? Gosh, I make a clean home sound kinda like warfare.

I guess after 20+ years of marriage and always having one kind of pet or another, it feels like warfare keeping the house clean at times.

Before heading out to your local retail store to plop down several hundred dollars on that brand spankin’ new Dyson, consider the alternative; buying a reconditioned Dyson vacuum online.  I did 2+ years ago and here’s why I think you should too.

Ask yourself “Do I have an extra $200 to $300 to burn or could I think of a better use for that money?”

Purchasing a reconditioned (refurbished) Dyson can save you several hundreds of dollars off retail.  Here’s a link to Sears, or Best Buy showing the latest Dyson vacuum prices.  Since this is a real-time price, I don’t know what you’re seeing but I’m guessing for a DC14 Animal they’re anywhere from$525 to $600.  And that doesn’t include tax so add another $35 to $40.

Total: $560 - $640.

Now compare that to a Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC14 Animal (click on link or on ad to the left - sometimes you need to add the vacuum to the shopping cart to see the actual price) - same model - the DC14 Animal and you’re looking at a price, I’ll bet, that’s in the the $300s or less! NO TAX. FREE (air) SHIPPING…. BaddaBing BaddaBoom, you just saved enough to have a heckuva nice romantic getaway for a night maybe two my friend.  Read on.

Ask yourself “Do I have to have a brand new Dyson?”

Here’s a definition of remanufactured/reconditioned, etc:

Remanufactured means that the vacuum has been returned to the manufacturer, who brings the vacuum back to like-new condition. Some appliances may contain cosmetic blemishes. The manufacturer offers a 6-month limited warranty on this remanufactured product.

Bottom line - for all intents and purposes, you’re getting a brand new vacuum that may have a few cosmetic blemishes on it.  Mine didn’t and neither did two other friends who bought reconditioned units either.  Dyson even puts a full 6 month warranty on all their remanufactured units to give you piece of mind.

If you read an earlier post I mentioned a problem a had with the bottom of the canister lid and how Dyson handled the problem.  I have spoken too several people who’ve spoken to their friends and none has ever had a problem with buying a refurbished Dyson.

Ask yourself “Do I take pride in finding the best deal?”

Everytime I look at my Dyson Animal, I get a kick out of how much I saved going the reconditioned route vs. retail. You may be like that or you may not.  But the fact is, after 2+ years of ownership, I can’t, and neither can anyone else, tell 1 bit of difference between my reconditioned Dyson and a new one.

In my last post, I gave a little background about the vacuums my wife and I have owned during our marriage along with how I discovered the Dyson Animal vacuum.  Today I like to share some of the features and benefits that I’ve discovered over the past several years of ownership and why I think the Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner is great if you own pets that shed.

Dyson’s won’t clog - In many years of use, I’ve managed to clog my Dyson vacuum once - and that was after a  Christmas when I decided to vacuum up all the Christmas tree needles.  Bad idea.  Still, it was a very simple process to take off pieces and parts of the Dyson to clear the clog.  This means less time spent clearing out jams and less time cleaning and more time vegging.

Dyson’s SUCK - I am amazed at the sheer sucking power of my Dyson Animal, no matter how full the canister gets. The vacuum has never bogged down once.  It is really noticeable when the canister is almost full and I pop an attachment onto the vacuum hose.

If you own a bag vacuum, you can probably relate to this - the bag is half or almost full and you pull the hose out to use an attachment and the hose just does not want to extend. You really have to pull on the dang thing to get any reach at all and normally you’ve got this little stub of a hose to use and the vacuum following three feet behind.  I never have that problem anymore with the Dyson.   Again, less time messing with the vacuum (and cleaning) and more time doing whatever it is that I do.

Hose Reach - I can set my Dyson Animal at the bottom of our stairs and do the entire stairway without having to move the vacuum once. This was such a great feature to me. Pre-Dyson, I did half the steps going up and then had to move the vacuum to the top of the landing to complete the job.  What a waste of time! With my Dyson, I’ve got a 17′ reach and it’s a ‘true’ reach.  In other words, no matter how full the vacuum canister is, the hose is very easy to extend all the way out to its full reach.

Another advantage is I’m able to extend the hose and reach all the walls and ceilings quickly in one pass instead of having to stop every few feet and move the vacuum.  Having the crevice tool within easy reach (it’s mounted on the handle) means it’s with me at all times too.

Simple to dump the canister - It is so nice to finishing vacuuming, pop the canister off and go dump the contents into the trash can. no more nasty dust particles flying around when I turn on the vacuum and it really is a good feeling seeing just how much dirt was picked up during vacuuming.

Pet Owners - We have a “shedding machine” in our Golden Retriever dog. She sheds 24/7 no matter what the season of the year. The Dyson Animal includes a Turbo Tool
that is a great tool for vacuum your furniture when those pesky pet hairs won’t come up with regular vacuuming. I had one of these turbo brushes with our Hoover Windtunnel but everytime I used it, I got the dreaded “shrinking/pulling” hose.  I also noticed with the Hoover’s attachment, that the RPM’s of the tool would fluctuate based on how full the bag was.  Sometimes, the least amount of pressure on the tool would stop it.

With the Dyson’s Turbo Tool - or Mini Turbine head as they call it now - the RPM’s stay more consistent and the hose does not pull. I find it very effective on our couches and chairs. But I have to be honest, I hardly use it because the Dyson has so much consistent sucking power. I find i can normally use just the carpet cleaning tool too get the furniture stripped of dog hair.

As a side note, the Tool is nice to use in the car with carpet cleaner, etc. I can use it to really scrub the mats, carpet and seats.

Dyson vacuums are amongst the most well known and well respected brands of vacuums and sweepers in the world, but which is the right model for you?

The Dyson DC18 Slim Vacuum Cleaner is a futuristic looking cleaner which is feature packed. The best part is that the price won’t stun you; this high power, revolutionary sweeper doesn’t cost an arm and a leg.

The DC18 Slim works with a constant suction power of 200 air watts on all types of floor surfaces. It is easily extendable for stair cleaning as well as reaching up into those high places such as the corners of the ceiling.

Dyson claims this vacuum cleaner has double suction power compared with other handheld vacuums and as is the case with all Dysons, will never lose suction. It also charges about three times faster than its competition. The vacuum comes with with a wall mount cradle and two accessories - a crevice tool and a combination accessory tool.

Being a cordless hand-held vacuum, the DC16 Root 6 is light and can be used just about anywhere including in the car. You empty the canister with a one touch system which makes it quick, convenient and a breeze to tidy up after use.

The vacuum cleaner is best for quick picking up of debris. With 36 air watts of suction power, it is powerful enough to pick up large debris from a variety of surfaces including tabletops, carpet and even the keyboard on your computer which can become notoriously dirty.

There is no need to replace bags or filters in the Dyson DC16 as it contains a small canister to catch the waste. There is also no dirty air being emitted into the air whilst you use it, meaning those suffering from asthma can breathe easy.

The Dyson DC07 Upright Vacuum Cleaner is a popular vacuum cleaner model and with good reason.

The Dyson DC14 Animal Takes Care of Pet Hair for Good

Since the new Dyson DC14 is part of the Animal series, it should be expected that it would be quite effective at removing pet hair from carpeting and upholstery.  As such, it features the mini turbine head, which is specifically designed to help remove pet hair from small areas such as on the stairs, upholstery, and the car.

The vacuum also features a low reach floor tool that can be used for vacuuming beneath beds and other furniture where pet hair has a tendency to build.  This feature is attached to the 17-foot wand when needed.  Therefore, it can be stretched to the top of a flight of stairs in order to vacuum the landing as well.
