With the help of the Dyson vacuum, animals and their owners are now living in cleaner homes.  Getting to the point where this vacuum cleaner could be offered to the public was not, however, a quick and easy task.

A New Idea is Born

The brain behind the Dyson vacuum cleaner, James Dyson, began working at developing a new type of vacuum cleaner at the young age of six.  When he would help his mother with the household chores, he noted that it was frustrating and time consuming to make frequent stops to clean out the sweeper.  He also noticed that the bag would get clogged periodically and would cause the vacuum to lose its suction.

Obviously, Dyson was a bit too young at the time to develop an entirely new design for vacuum cleaners, but the dilemma always remained in the back of his mind.  It wasn’t until 1978, when he was 31 years old, that Dyson came up with an innovative new design for vacuum cleaners.  Oddly enough, his inspiration came from watching the sawdust being sucked out of a sawmill that he visited while renovating his country home.

Dyson noticed that the sawdust was quickly and easily removed from the sawmill with the help of a spinning column of air, which allowed the dust to be sucked into a cone.  After observing this 30 foot high cone that so effectively utilized the science of centrifugal force, he reasoned that the same concept could be used in a vacuum cleaner in order to separate dust and spin it out of the airstream.  His hope was that this would make it possible to remove both the bag and the filter from the vacuum, thereby reducing the likelihood that it would become clogged or lose suction.

An Idea Becomes a Reality

Dyson quickly got to work with designing and developing what has come to be known as his Dual Cyclone design.  Between the years of 1979 and 1984, he created 5,127 prototype models using this idea.  In 1983, he built the first G-Force model and earned a spot on the front cover of Design Magazine.  By 1986, his first G-Force cleaner was sold in Japan and sold for $2,000 each.

In May of 1993, Dyson introduced his first Dual Cyclone vacuum cleaner to world.  Since then, he has created a number of different models and designs.  Each offers its own unique characteristics and benefits.  When it comes to the Dyson vacuum, animals and pet owners are distinctly partial to the Dyson Animal because of its unique ability to suck up pet hair quickly and easily while still utilizing the same dual cyclone technology that was developed so many years ago by one man with a goal of making vacuuming easier and more efficient.
